Oregon’s Only ARCS CRS-Designated Rug Care Company: Atiyeh Bros.

When you choose a professional rug cleaner, experience matters. Every area rug is unique. Its fibers, dyes, construction, and age all affect how it should be cared for. Therefore, understanding these differences is essential to providing appropriate rug care.

At Atiyeh Bros., we believe exceptional rug care starts with expert knowledge. As founding members of the Association of Rug Care Specialists (ARCS), we have a longstanding commitment to professional education. Today, that commitment is reflected in our team of seven ARCS Certified Rug Specialists. Furthermore, as of 2026, we are the only company in Oregon holding the ARCS Certified Rug Specialist (CRS) designation.

What Is the Association of Rug Care Specialists?

The Association of Rug Care Specialists is an international organization focused on professional area rug care. Through specialized education and industry collaboration, ARCS encourages professionals to continue developing their knowledge and skills.

As founding members, Atiyeh Bros. is proud to support the advancement of professional rug care. In addition, we value opportunities to learn from other specialists and strengthen our expertise.

The ARCS Certified Rug Specialist designation represents advanced training in rug identification and care. According to our review of the ARCS member directory, only 27 companies worldwide hold this designation. As a result, Atiyeh Bros. holds a distinctive position in Oregon as the state’s only company with the CRS designation.

Three to Five Years of Hands-On Training

Becoming a rug-care specialist takes time, experience, and dedication. At Atiyeh Bros., we typically provide three to five years of hands-on training before a technician pursues ARCS certification.

During this time, our team members develop practical knowledge of rugs. For example, they learn about different materials, construction methods, and care requirements. Moreover, working with rugs firsthand helps them develop the observation skills needed to recognize important differences between pieces.

This experience creates a strong foundation for advanced education. Rather than rushing the process, we give our technicians time to build their skills and confidence before pursuing certification.

We also look for employees who demonstrate curiosity, dedication, and a genuine passion for rugs. Consequently, when team members are ready to advance, we are proud to invest in their continued professional development.

What Does It Take to Become an ARCS Certified Rug Specialist?

ARCS certification requires more than attending a class. Instead, candidates must study advanced rug-care topics and demonstrate their knowledge through a formal certification process.

The training covers subjects such as rug identification, construction, origins, and cleaning considerations. In addition, candidates must pass a comprehensive examination and submit a written report.

According to ARCS, candidates must earn at least 80% on the final exam. They must also complete the required written report to earn the designation.

Together, these requirements encourage continued learning and professional growth. More importantly, they help specialists develop a deeper understanding of the rugs they evaluate and care for.

Seven ARCS Certified Rug Specialists in 2026

As of 2026, Atiyeh Bros. has seven ARCS Certified Rug Specialists on our team. We are proud of this achievement because it reflects years of training, education, and dedication.

However, we see certification as part of an ongoing commitment rather than a final destination. There is always more to discover about rug construction, materials, identification, and proper care.

Looking ahead, we plan to continue expanding our team’s specialized knowledge. We are especially excited to help more employees pursue ARCS certification as they develop their skills and experience.

By investing in our employees, we strengthen the expertise we bring to our customers. Ultimately, continued professional development helps support our commitment to knowledgeable, thoughtful rug care.

How Does Certification Benefit Our Customers?

Rugs can vary greatly in their materials and construction. For instance, some feature delicate dyes or unique weaving techniques, while others may have existing wear or condition concerns. Because of these differences, each rug deserves an individual evaluation.

Our specialized training helps us recognize characteristics that may affect cleaning decisions. As a result, our team can make more informed recommendations based on each rug’s materials, construction, and condition.

Our specialists use their knowledge to help:

• Identify rug materials and construction. Understanding how a rug is made helps us evaluate its care requirements.
• Recognize potential concerns. For example, existing wear, dye characteristics, and condition issues may influence the cleaning process.
• Evaluate cleaning options. Based on a rug’s individual characteristics, we can determine the most appropriate approach.
• Provide informed recommendations. Our team can explain important care considerations and answer customer questions.
• Continue learning. Through ongoing education, our specialists keep developing their knowledge and skills.

Although certification cannot eliminate every risk, it supports informed decision-making. Since every rug is different, our goal is to evaluate each piece carefully and choose an appropriate care approach.

A Commitment to Expert Rug Care

At Atiyeh Bros., rug care involves much more than cleaning. It requires experience, attention to detail, and specialized knowledge.

Our founding membership in ARCS reflects our longstanding commitment to the industry. Similarly, our CRS designation and seven certified specialists demonstrate our continued investment in professional education.
